Trondheim Intensive Erasmus Program 2010

Myself and 44 other students from 3 colleges Institute of Technology CarlowHogeschool van AmsterdamFachhochschule Vorarlberg descended on the City of Trondheim in Norway to work with another 15 students from Høgskolen i Sør-Trøndelag, who graciously hosted the IP. The IP was IP Trondheim 2010 – Serious Gaming in association with Kongsberg Gruppen, Statoil and the EU Lifelong Learning Programme. Our task was to create a prototype of a serious safety game for Statiol. In two weeks, one of which was mainly lectures. amazingly every one of the 7 teams had playable prototypes to demonstrate on the last day.

We built our games using “Coin3D” rendering, “Bullet” physics and used “Qt” for our GUI. Using SCRUM and CCD, we were able to produce some solid prototypes in the two weeks alloted. The team I was on “team phi”, won “best game idea” of the IP with the game “The Risk”. The whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable and I’d advice everybody to visit the city of Trondheim.

Team Phi: ( left to right )

Jaap Lam, Pieter Fleuren, Christoph Storm, James Sadlier, Sarah Hofer, Thomas Andresen, Emil Andreas Mork

and Boyu Li ( unfortunately out of shot, operating the laptop used for the presentation )
